CHARITY – helping children in unfavourable life situation

A special charity fundraiser called Beats for Charity will offer all festivalfans the opportunity to contribute to a good thing. This year, the money collection will be aimed at helping nine-year-old Isabel Kavalová from Petrovice u Karviné and seven-month-old Dorian Příborský from Havířov. The collection will run from 1 July to 30 August and interested parties can donate using the QR code listed on the Beats for Love networks. It will also be possible to donate in person using a terminal or QR code. Hostesses will be on site to help visitors with payment.

“In previous years, the generous contributions of our fans have proven that their hearts beat for helping people in a difficult life situation. And we’re incredibly grateful for that attitude. Last year, we raised a record amount of money together, and on behalf of the organisers, we increased it to CZK 600,000,” says Gabriela Rudolfová, a member of the festival’s production team.

Dorian’s story

“Dorian is our first dream son. We had a beautiful, healthy baby, but unfortunately the joy didn’t last long,” the mother of Dorian, Mrs. Príbelová, told the family story. After an appointment with the doctor, a round of examinations with specialists – orthopaedist, rehabilitation, neurologist and geneticist – took place. Dorian even had to be hospitalized due to his reduced mobility and poor breathing, which eventually ended in pneumonia and later the insertion of a tracheotomy. The geneticist subsequently diagnosed Dorian with spinal muscular atrophy type 1. “In April, Dori was given his first ever medication to stop the disease. He must receive it every day for the rest of his life, and always at the same time. If he had not received this treatment, he could have died at the age of 2,” adds Dorian’s father, Mr. Příborský.

Unfortunately, Dorian currently needs the help of a lung ventilator as he is unable to breathe on his own. He has fought for his life several times, undergoing two resuscitations, intubations and surgeries. He is currently being kept alive with the help of a sonde, which is only a temporary solution. If he does not start eating on his own, he will need to be operated on again and a feeding tube inserted through the skin directly into his stomach. With this type of tube, he could be nourished for a long time.

“Everything is new to us and Dorian’s condition is still not fully stable,” says Dorian’s mother. The family will use the money raised to buy all the necessary medical and compensatory aids as well as regular rehabilitation. “These rehabilitations will be an indispensable part of Dorian’s life,” concludes Mrs. Príbelová.

The Story of Isabel

Isabel had to be hospitalised and intubated after birth. As a one-month-old baby, she underwent occipital surgery and during a follow-up examination, she was diagnosed with a hearing defect, macrocephaly and central hypotonic syndrome. A diagnosis of moderate intellectual disability was added later. “Isabella was not thriving, so we were hospitalized together and a feeding tube was planned to be inserted directly into her stomach.

Unfortunately, complications arose and later Isabel was fitted with a tracheotomy and gastrostomy,” says Isabel’s mother, Mrs. Frank. Later, Isabel returned home from the hospital and began regular exercise and rehabilitation with her mother, including the well-known Vojta method. Gradually, her condition began to improve. “Now she runs so much that we have a problem catching her,” adds Isabel’s father, Mr Kavala. At the age of two, Isabel was diagnosed with Noonan syndrome, which is associated with cardiac disease,

failure to thrive, intellectual disability and other health problems. “Isabel is an inquisitive little girl. However, she needs to be watched all the time because she doesn’t understand that she could hurt herself and she doesn’t have much of an instinct for self-protection. We take care of her together with her father and once a month assistants from Oasis come to visit us,” says Mrs. Franková about Isabel’s current condition.

The families of both children will use the funds raised mainly to purchase medical and compensatory aids, necessary care, rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
